Lubrication services are a procedure that includes the inspection and service of all the main moving parts in your vehicle, even the door and trunk hinges. Engine and transmission oils are changed and inspected for condition; if the color changes or metal particles are detected, an underlying problem exists. Filters are also changed, along with an inspection of the undercarriage and engine bay. Lubrication services are a generally good way of keeping all important parts in your car working as intended - even some that are commonly forgotten, like the hinges.
If you want to know a couple of different signs pointing to your vehicle needing lubrication services, keep reading. Here are some very obvious and easily repaired problems you might come across:
Is the check engine light or oil lamp on? If the answer is yes, you might need to visit a repair shop. While the check engine light can mean a lot of things, the oil lamp will most certainly be caused by a problem with the oil. A shop visit is advised to check on things and repair them accordingly.
Another symptom is a change in the exhaust smoke. Normally, it shouldn't have any color, as most of the debris from the fumes is caught in the catalyzer. But when it changes color, an oil leak or something similar may be the cause. While it's commonly overlooked, make sure to visit a repair shop, just to be sure.
Weird noises are never a good sign. This especially applies to fluid and lubrication-related mechanisms. If you hear any weird or unusual noises coming from your gearbox or engine bay, lubrication or fluid services might be required.
The oil pressure gauge is used to monitor the pressure of the oil in your vehicle's system. If it's too low, oil won't be distributed to all the parts that need it. And for the temperature gauge - monitors the temperature of the oil and typically rises to around 180 degrees. If it's too low, pressure won't build up, resulting in an insufficient oil supply.
